On 23 and 24 February 2019, the first-ever Games of Goa Festival was held in Loutulim, South Goa District. The weekend event offered participants the chance to learn about and play a wide range of traditional games alongside the guidance of organizer Kedar Borkar and friends. Long played by native Goans, many traditional games face the risk of extinction. By organizing the festival, Borkar hopes that these cultural assets will not be relegated to history and museum curiosities, but will rather continue to be enjoyed by those in both Goa and further afield. The event was open to the public, and it featured at least 16 distinct games alongside traditional music and artwork shows.
