The Goa Traffic Police’s Traffic Warden Scheme provides for citizens to get involved in road safety and traffic management issues at the Village Panchayat and Municipal levels. This is a purely volunteer driven scheme in which citizens can manage traffic in collaboration with the traffic police only. As part of this scheme, several senior citizens across the state have taken on the role of traffic wardens and in February 2019, many of them held an awareness programme on road safety in Panaji as part of the Road Safety Week. The group of traffic wardens comprised of senior citizens – the oldest being 83 years old (!) and the youngest being 62 years old. Hats off to these admirable road safety champions!
