The Goa state government has introduced an innovative education system developed by the Rishi Valley Institution for Education Resources (RiVER) in 24 government primary schools (2 from each Taluka) across the state. The programme (known as the RiVER-TIDE programme) uses a different method of learning where children are given the freedom to learn at their own pace using learning materials provided in the class. Teachers only assist in this process and also have more time to focus on those students that are lagging behind. Further the programme also makes use of appropriate technology such as tablets to facilitate learning through different media. This method has proven to be successful in government primary schools in Karnataka as well as in Andhra Pradesh.  The programme has been implemented for Classes I & II and if successful, will also be implemented in Classes III & IV.
