As of April 2019, the Indian Institute of Technology, Goa is reaching out to rural schools to foster a love for science among them by introducing concepts such as additive manufacturing and artificial intelligence. Further, they are also helping students conduct science experiments using everyday objects to generate more interest in the subject. As part of their Center for Appropriate Technology for Rural Sectors (CATeRS), IIT Goa first organised an outreach programme in March 2019 wherein 52 students and 10 teachers from 10 rural schools were invited to the IIT campus for lectures and demonstrations on science and mathematics. In response to further interest from teachers and students, the plans were expanded to include more schools in Ponda and Sanguem. Further, future plans of CATeRS include mentoring  of school science and mathematics teachers to help develop a scientific temperament amongst children in the state.
