How Goa is Adopting Smart Parking

In May 2018, the Imagine Panjim Smart City Development Corporation (IPSCDL) said that there is a plan to create 4000 parking slots in Panjim city which citizens can pre-book using an app. Further, it also revealed plans of installing 450 CCTV cameras from Panjim to Dona Paula in order to monitor traffic rules compliance as well as to curb littering and other suspicious activities. The project was to be completed by August 2018. However, this has not been completed yet.

The Corporation of City of Panjim (CCP), in March 2019, decided to reintroduce pay parking in the city to ensure it doesn’t lose out on revenue until the Smart City plans are implemented. In the past, pay parking services in the city have been mired in controversy with several cases of non-payment by contractors.
