In November 2018, the Victim Assistance Unit (VAU) of the state government began mapping areas with high instances of child abuse and involvement of children in crime within the state by going through cases registered with the local police. Based on this mapping, villages and municipalities that require higher attention towards this issue were to be identified and panchayats were to be urged to activate their Child Welfare Committees. Emphasis was also to be placed on conducting Bal gram sabhas. This process has already begun in Aldona with the support of the local panchayat as Aldona was identified as a village with high instances of abuse.  The plan was to target Merces village next.
