Youth of Chicalim created history by being the first such persons to present the Village PBR for validation to the Thematic Expert Committee

The youth of Chicalim created history by being the first such persons to present the Village PBR for validation to the Thematic Expert Committee formed by the Goa State Biodiversity Board for the said Validation purpose.

Young Valerie, Neha, Mercy and Steven presented the PBR (People’s Biodiversity Register) prepared by the Chicalim BMC to the experts committee. The youth were trained by Rev. Fr. Dr. Bolmax Pereira and Activist Cyril A. Fernandes. The expert committee members welcomed this bold and positive move of using the youth to present the village Biodiversity and complimented the young team for their erudite attempt. The expert team members had a word of advice for the BMC members and the panchayat of Chicalim to act judiciously to protect the natural breeding grounds of window pane oysters and tisreos (clams) and to preserve the water bodies and the traditional irrigation systems of the village. Chicalim villagers and their youth have set a new benchmark in working towards preserving and protecting age-old heritage.
